The Green Mountain Writers Group celebrated National Poetry Month on April 20, 2024.
We enjoyed the opportunity to meet in person at Underhill Center’s historic District No. 5 Schoolhouse on a special day dedicated to poets and fans of poetry
At 10 AM, we begin with a morning workshop led by Vermont Poet Jodi Girouard. Her call for “Ending the Silence” featured a discussion on breaking through the restrictions and fear that prevent writers from living and sharing their truth. Attendees were encouraged to compose and meet again at 11 AM in the schoolhouse to share their thoughts and writing.
At Noon, we shared a potluck lunch and I barbecued burgers on the riverside deck at Camp Sit ‘n Bull, my home and studio on Stevensville Road (right across from the historic schoolhouse). Folks brought wine and a variety of dishes to share.
At 1 PM everyone got to meet the poets and browse the books displayed inside the District No. 5 Schoolhouse. Live Poetry Readings took place from 1:30 to 4 PM led by Jodi and I, followed by an open mic for anyone in the audience who wanted to share their own poetry.
